Jackie Robinson homered, tripled, doubled, and singled – in that order, on August 29, 1948. In doing so he led the Brooklyn Dodgers to a 12-7 win in the opener of a double header against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers also won the the second game 6-4 and took over first place. However their lead was short-lived. They faded in September and fell to third place by the end of the season.
